Rameshwaram (रामेश्वरम)

Description

Rameshwaram (रामेश्वरम) is one of the holiest pilgrimage towns in India, located in the Ramanathapuram district of Tamil Nadu. It is part of the Char Dham Yatra (Rameshwaram, Badrinath, Dwarka, and Puri) and holds immense significance in both Shaivism and Vaishnavism.

About Rameshwaram

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, worshipped here as Ramanathaswamy.
The town is situated on Pamban Island, connected to mainland India by the famous Pamban Bridge.
It is believed that Lord Rama worshipped Shiva here before crossing the sea to Lanka to rescue Goddess Sita.
Considered the Varanasi of the South, Rameshwaram is equally sacred for Hindus.
